Knowing me, knowing them

Working with legends like a-ha was a wonderful, and tough, gig. Both because they’re so talented, but also because we’re fans too! So we wanted to make sure we were respectful and celebratory of the a-ha heritage, whilst also bringing something new to the table – something that could actually help their fans turn their fears and grief into positive action.

From terror, to hope

Paul Goodenough worked closely with a-ha’s Magne Furuholmen on lyrics and wording to transform the underlying messages of their song YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES – and turning it into a narrative story realised as a music video.

It meant a lot to Magne and Paul that the story reflected the harsh reality of life, and reflected how much things have changed since they wrote and released TAKE ON ME. So it was decided to present a story whereby our main character, who has aged alongside the music, wakes to find a wounded planet – a planet needing hope. And as he stumbles into the street, he’s greeted by streets full of protestors… who in turn welcome him into their community, and the future.

Easter Eggs ahoy!

But it wouldn’t be us if we didn’t do something a little more than the norm. Paul worked with a-ha fan and comics legend Mike Perkins to fill the music video and art with over 20 (we won’t tell you how many) super-fan easter eggs for the eagle-eyed.

Alongside the release, we ran a competition online – with the winner receiving the original art that created the music video.
