Bringing Ocean Conservation to Mobile Screens
Longleaf Valley partnered with Sea Shepherd and Rewriting Earth to turn mobile gameplay into meaningful action for the oceans. Writers Paul and Corey Brotherson worked on the story elements, crafting dialogue and progression that brought the mission and its characters to life. To support the launch, we also created a light-hearted comic with Wawawiwa, helping to spread the message in a fun and accessible way.
Inside the Season Pass Story
The Season Pass put players at the heart of the story, following TJ alongside the Sea Shepherd crew as they battled ghost nets – near invisible, abandoned fishing nets that trap and endanger marine life.
By progressing through the Season Pass, every player’s journey directly contributed to Sea Shepherd’s mission – purchases made instant donations, and in-game achievements increased that impact, creating a loop where digital play translated into real-world benefit.
By combining fun, accessible gameplay with a pressing environmental message, the campaign allowed players to understand the urgency of ocean conservation in a way that felt engaging, empowering, and completely judgment-free.

Gameplay with Purpose
New characters, storylines, and mechanics were developed to ensure the Season Pass felt meaningful and fun. The campaign created a sense of empathy and ownership; players could feel part of the crew, experience the triumphs and setbacks, and see how their actions had tangible outcomes. It shifted awareness beyond Sea Shepherd’s existing supporter base, opening the door to new demographics and partnerships.

Playing for Real-World Impact
Longleaf Valley’s eco-conscious framework, where player actions help plant trees through Eden: People + Planet, was amplified in the Sea Shepherd Season Pass. The campaign shifted perceptions about what a mobile game can do: it proved that commercial entertainment can also be a force for positive change. Players learned about pressing ocean issues and became active participants in conservation efforts, experiencing first-hand how individual choices (even in a game) can make a difference.
